SHAH ALAM - Temerloh MP Salamiah Mohd Nor calls for early preparations as part of proactive measures during floods in her constituency.
Temerloh MP Salamiah Mohd Nor has called for early preparations in her constituency to reduce damages during floods.
She urged relevant authorities and stakeholders to take immediate action in terms of infrastructure maintenance, disaster management plans, and community awareness programmes to mitigate the impact of any potential floods in the future.
"If we want to stop, we may not be able to because it is the rainy season, and floods often occur during this time. However, we can make early preparations," she said.
Salamiah also expressed concerns on the well-being of potential flood victims.
"We raised a question in parliament. To what extent have flood mitigation projects been implemented to alleviate the issues faced by the affected residents?," she said.
Temerloh, being one of the flood-hit townships, experiences monsoon season from November to January. The region is particularly vulnerable to flooding during this period.
In March, Pahang was struck by a flash flood, resulting in the evacuation of 2,317 individuals and were placed in 22 temporary evacuation centres across six districts, including Temerloh.
The occurrence of such floods underscores the importance of proactive measures and preparedness in addressing the challenges posed by natural disasters in the region.
