KUCHING - Three foreign companies are collaborating with the Sarawak Government in developing local talents in semiconductor and microelectronics designs.
Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said Melexis of Belgium, X-FAB (Germany) and Synopsys (USA) are assisting to train Sarawakians in Integrated Circuit (IC) Design, IC Layout Design, Wafer Fabrication Process and Wafer Testing.
Winding up for his ministry at the State Assembly here today, he said the companies would be collaborating with a state government subsidiary, Semiconductor and Microelectronics Design (SMD) Sdn Bhd, with Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Sarawak Skills Group as training providers.
"These will provide opportunities for our local graduates who are passionate about microelectronics and innovation in IC design. Sarawak’s youths and graduates are welcomed to seize those opportunities in semiconductor and microelectronics industry," he said.
Meanwhile, Sagah said the construction of the Sarawak Science Centre is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
"My ministry together with Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) is currently working on organising a specialised group to look into the content to ensure that the Science Centre will be a state of the art centre in the region," he said.
According to him, the centre would explore opportunities with science and technological centres around the world to keep abreast of current trends and interests in science, as well as for possible exchange of exhibits and talents. - BERNAMA
