ALOR SETAR - Kedah's Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan have agreed to align the state government with the Federal government for the benefit of the people, said state Umno chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Kedah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said people in Kedah would receive fewer benefits if the state government and unity government were not in sync.
"If we constantly engage in daily conflicts with the Federal government, exchanging insults and resorting to written communication for even the smallest requests, it would be detrimental," he said.
"For instance, if our neighbours quarreled with us and then asked for assistance, would we extend help to them or not?" he questioned.
He said such during his speech at the 2023 Kedah Unity Leadership Ceremony State Convention at the Ampang Business Centre (ABC), Ampang Jajar here on Sunday.
Mahdzir expressed confidence that the campaign 'kalih bagi sama' (change to make it the same) could successfully align the state and federal government administration.
He believed that having the state government in line with the federal government was the best option for the people.
He further said the coalition within the unity government would be more capable of effectively managing Kedah compared to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
"We could take on Kedah (and even able to) manage (the state) better than PN, if we have the same spirit,” he said.
Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said it was crucial for the government to collaborate with the Federal government to facilitate and implement various development projects.
He cited an example, stating that Kedah, being a significant rice-producing region could serve as the primary food granary to ensure national food security.
In another development, Mahfuz said that the 2023 Kedah Unity Leadership Ceremony State convention, which brought together nine coalitions in the state, represented a historic event for both Kedah and Malaysia.
