SHAH ALAM - DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali criticises Perikatan Nasional (PN) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who was baffled when some Umno leaders requested their members to show support to DAP candidates in the upcoming state polls.
Umar said the Bersatu president had also previously requested and invited the public to support DAP.
He said that even though he deems it as ‘unusual’, but it is not something Muhyiddin is not familiar with.
"This is because he has also campaigned in support of DAP. In a speech in Jan 2018, he spoke on Bersatu's principle, which contested under Pakatan Harapan, to show 100 per cent to DAP, Amanah, and Keadilan.
"At the time, after being fired from Umno, Bersatu, and Pakatan Harapan had cooperated. The results were a victory in the 14th general election (GE14)," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Umar added that the Unity Government is a coalition of 19 parties that have agreed to realise the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, for a government to be formed after GE15.
"Therefore, the call to strengthen this government is important to ensure political stability and economic recovery in Malaysia. This includes facing the upcoming state elections.
"Even though Muhyiddin's ‘unusual’ feeling is not a hinderance for the parties in the unity government to explore a new political cross-party narrative to maintain stability in the government administration," he explained,
