RANTAU PANJANG - Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are focusing on becoming a strong opposition after realising the slim chances for the coalition to wrest Kelantan from Pas in the next state election.
Kelantan Umno secretary Datuk Akhbar Salim said a strong opposition is needed to monitor and balance the administration after the election.
"Therefore, BN and PH will put forward the best candidates in the state election to serve the people well.
"Although it would be difficult for us (BN-PH) to form a government here, we are ready to play our role as a strong opposition," he told reporters after the Unity Government Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration at Rantau Panjang Parliament, here, today.
He said BN and PH hope that the people will give the coalition a chance to bring about new changes after the state election.
The people's support is crucial to ensuring more BN and PH representatives are in the State Assembly so the coalition can become a stronger opposition, Akhbar said.
In another development, Akhbar said the seat allocation negotiation between BN and PH for the state election in Kelantan is still ongoing.
He said the party had submitted a proposal to the BN leadership to hold a discussion with PH over the seat distribution.
"Everything is going smoothly, and we are now waiting for the decision," he said.
