MARAN - A woman died while her husband is critically injured after the Toyota Vios they were travelling in hit a tree at Taman Rantau Perintis, Bandar Pusat Jengka, yesterday.
In the accident at about 9.30pm, the victim Fazilah Abdullah Sani, 56, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.
Maran district police chief Deputy Superintendent Norzamri Abd Rahman said the driver who was the victim's husband, Mohamad Nordin Aziz, 58, was still being treated at the red zone at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) in Temerloh.
He said another passenger, a 48-year-old woman escaped injury.
"Initial investigation found that the driver with his wife and a relative were heading back home from Bandar Jengka.
"The vehicle lost control, skidded and hit a tree at the scene.
"The front passenger died at the scene due to the accident," he said in a statement, today.
Norzamri said post mortem will be conducted after obtaining the results of the Covid-19 swab test.
He added that further investigation will continue and the police were looking for witnesses of the accident to assist in the investigation.
"The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
Meanwhile, Pahang Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said a total of four members and two officers from the Jengka Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
"There are two victims consisting of a man who was seriously injured and a woman who was confirmed dead by the Health Ministry (KKM) staff.
"All the victims were extracted from the vehicle by the public before the fire department arrived at the scene," he said.
Zulfadli added that JBPM carried out inspections and monitoring at the location.
The body of the victim who died in the accident was handed over to the police while the Health Ministry was monitoring the two others.
