KUALA LUMPUR - Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gets nostalgic, reminisce what had taken place 25 years ago in Dewan Merdeka during his speech at the Unity Government National Convention today.
He was referring to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sacking from the party when he was deputy president then.
"I had witnessed an individual humiliated and discriminated in Dewan Merdeka 25 years ago.
"And 25 years later, that person (Anwar) is Malaysia's Prime Minister," said Zahid.
The Deputy President said the assembly election was not just about holding the Unity Government National Convention but in reality, was to form a new politics that was the Madani Government.
He said the convention gathered 19 political parties aimed at developing a political future that upholds togetherness and diversity in addition to defending the sovereignty and strengthening the constitution.
"In the past, many people are afraid of Dewan Merdeka but that is in the past, now we have established a new political system.
"There used to be people who feel fear when they look at the colours red and blue. Today, there is no different colours among us, just white.
"This shows that we are currently developing the political future," he said during the Unity Government National Convention at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur today.
