IPOH - The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (JHEV) of the Malaysian Armed Forces is targeting to repair 170 houses this year, said its director-general Major General Zambery Jefry Darus.
He said approval had been granted for 147 units and repair works would continue as soon as possible.
"The government has allocated RM5.7 million this year for the construction of 40 new houses and repair of 170 houses.
"We have started work on 32 new houses, of which seven have been completed. It only takes three months to complete a house," he told reporters after handing over new house keys in Kampung Ulu Chepor today.
Zambery Jefry said the new house was worth RM85,000, with JHEV funding RM65,000 while the rest was provided by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB), which oversaw the project.
Meanwhile, a retiree, former commando Mohd Sobri Bakar, 63, was happy and grateful to receive a house after living in a hut in Kampung Gapis, near Padang Rengas, for about four years.
Mohd Sobri, who was a member of the Special Operations Group at Camp Slim, Cameron Highlands, for 15 years, described JHEV as a body that is always alert and responsive to help the group. - BERNAMA
