KUALA LUMPUR - Wanita Umno calls upon the leaders of the Unity Government to prioritise the stability of the government by recognising that they are representatives of the people, and are not above the rakyat.
"We, as leaders, should remember where we are from. We are not above the rakyat. We are nothing without the rakyat. We fight for the rakyat," said Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
She further added that it has been six months since Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have been together with the government.
"Together, we are support each other. Today, we are also able to organise this Unity Government National Women Convention.
"It has been decades of being political enemies, quarrelling with conflicts but today the atmosphere is quite extraordinary.
"It is quite harmonious and prosperous. I thank friends from PH, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Warisan and all components for willing to be together in this Merdeka hall," Noraini said during her speech at the Unity Government National Women Convention held at the World Trade Centre today.
She further added the early days of the unity government may have been unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
"However, many countries in this world have formed a kind of Unity Government, and we (in Malaysia) all welcome it with an open heart," Noraini said.
She also elaborated that a stabilie government will woo domestic and foreign investors.
"Our unity is our political stability. This is the main key point to the government," she added.
Noraini also expressed her surprise that one day she will be seated alongside Pakatan Harapan Wanita Chief Aiman Athirah Sabu and DAP Wanita Chief Chong Eng.
She also touched on increasing women representation in both the government and private sectors.
"I am sure that if we put more women in the government sector and also in the private sector, we will build better (nation).
She further highlighted of the fact that there is ample opportunity for the Unity Government to enhance its performance, particularly in terms of aligning economic policies with the needs and aspirations of the people.
The Women's Convention will focus on issues such as the economy, nation-building, and the role of women in Malaysia Madani.
Also presented Wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP.
The event, themed 'Madani Mewajahi Masa Depan Malaysia', will conclude with a message from the Chairman of the Unity Government Secretariat, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, followed by the announcement of the convention declaration.
