KOTA BHARU - Small and Medium Industries (SMI) in Kelantan may go out of business if the water problem in the state is not resolved immediately, said Kelantan Muslim SMI Entrepreneurs Cooperative chairman Kamarudin Yunus.
In that regard, he welcomes the Unity Government's stance to solve the problem of clean water supply in the state.
"Most SMI entrepreneurs have to use water boring system to get enough water for production. We cannot rely entirely on government water (AKSB) because production often has to be stopped due to inconsistent water supply," he told Bernama here today.
He said the decision announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday was good news that the people of this state, especially Kelantan SMI entrepreneurs, were looking forward to.
"We hope that with the intervention of the federal government, the problem of obtaining clean water supply can be immediately dealt with and put an end to the difficulties that the people of this state have been enduring for so long," he said.
Anwar said the Unity Government would hold discussions if the state government was willing to cooperate, after which systematic and efficient water supply projects would be implemented for the whole of Kelantan. - BERNAMA
