KOTA KINABALU - The issue of flight tickets for students and undergraduates from Sabah who are in the Peninsular is one of the matters that is priority for Sabah Education Exco, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.
He said many issues were voiced out by students during his visit to education centers in the Peninsular.
"Insya-Allah next month I will visit students in the Peninsular like I did during the fasting month where I visited students in Selangor, Johor, Penang and Kedah.
"The visit was to gain direct input on what issues or things that needed focus including the issue of expensive flight tickets ,we are prepared to listen to their views, suggestions and opinions for us to have it fine-tuned,” he told reporters after attending the Petronas Open House event here on Thursday.
When asked to comment further the Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said he will meet with officers and related parties including airlines regarding the matter.
"I will meet with several officers to discuss matters including the Sabah Foundation Officers, we also have the Sabah State Education Funds Committee inspired by the Chief Minister,” he said.
When asked whether the government intended to use the funds to aid students on flight ticket issues, he said discussions would be done on it.
"We have not made any decisions regarding the matter, but we will discuss it and we will bring this issue to the related ministries and airline companies,” he said.
The issues of expensive flight tickets are among the issues that has garnered a lot of attention in the state especially during festive seasons where Sabahans are usually forced to bear the high costs of tickets
