SHAH ALAM - Returning Malaysia to the original values that transcends above race and religion are among the important messages that will be brought by Umno Youth during the National Unity Government Convention scheduled on May 14.
Its chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said it is time to do so with the cooperation of parties that form the government.
He said it was crucial to take wise and moderate decisions.
"That's the foundation of Umno till now, where we are not too extreme.
"Most importantly, as a young leader in the Unity Government, I see that the people today no longer want our leaders to be too involved in politics," he told Sinar.
He said the people no longer want to witness instability as it would lead to economic instability.
"We are responsible for restoring the people's trust in their leaders.
"What young leaders can do is use new approaches and methods, not too involved in politics and power struggles. We want to facilitate people's affairs, not make them difficult. That is among our agenda," he added.
Dr Akmal further said it clear that the historic convention was certainly the first step towards a unity government and the starting point for closer relationships.
From there, he said, all 19 parties involved can understand and respect each other.
"To ensure that a relationship lasts, there must be mutual respect, understanding, and most importantly, we should not touch on sensitive issues.
"We hope it will be a good start for parties in the Unity Government, and ultimately provide a new light and hope for the people of Malaysia," he said.
