LENGGONG - Umno describes the Umno Sayangi DAP campaign poster which was spread on social media as a slander made by certain parties.
Its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno never came up with such a campaign.
"Whoever made this up especially in the month of Syawal, repent and apologise quickly.
"Such slanders must stop as now anyone can read about it. This is one of the tactics by the opposition since then,” he told reporters at the Perak Umno Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara here, today.
Also present were Perak Umno chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof and Umno central and state leaders.
The poster spread on social media stated that Zahid was launching a "Sayangi DAP campaign" to gain the confidence of Umno grassroots that DAP was not as bad as it was portrayed.
The campaign stated that it was for the purpose of destroying former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decade-long doctrine for Umno members to hate DAP and remove the misconception that DAP was anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-rulers.
Meanwhile, on the decision of the suspension of Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Zahid said the matter was left to the Umno Supreme Council.
He said it was not only Tajuddin, but any members who has a disciplinary action taken against them could make an appeal but the decision will be discussed in the Supreme Council meeting.
On April 28, Tajuddin who was a former Umno Supreme Council member said he had appealed for the decision on his suspension for six years and wanted to return active in the party.
