TANJONG KARANG - Pakatan Harapan (PH) Selangor is confident of winning at least 50 out of the 56 seats in the upcoming state elections.
Selangor PH election director Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri said the situation was based on an agreement among PH and BN leaderships under the Unity Government.
According to him, based on the 14th General Election where PH was able to win 42 seats, this time PH would be able to win big in Selangor and retain its reign for four consecutive terms.
"In the past (GE14), we lost because we did not get the people's support especially in BN stronghold areas.
"Now, when PH and BN are a team, we are confident that we will be able to win more seats not only in the urban areas, but also in the rural areas," he said.
He said this at the Permatang State Assembly Aidilfitri event at the Permatang State Assembly Service Centre compound here on Saturday.
Mohd Yahya who is also a member of the PKR Leadership Council said that based on the GE15 outcomes, PH and BN have gained the people's trust.
"Politics' calculation is not like mathematics; when the number of parliamentary votes are divided into state assemblies, it means that the combination of PH and BN dominates and we would roughly win all the Selangor state assembly seats that were divided in the last GE15," he said.
He explained that although PN won five seats in the last GE15, but at the time, political parties' votes were split into three.
"GE15 witnessed a three-cornered clash between PH, PN and BN, and after the formation of the Unity Government, we became stronger and the Malay support has also increased," he said.
Mohd Yahya added that the support of Malay voters seem to be increasing through data garnered from survets conducted by PH
"At least 50 per cent of Malay voters support PH and this gives the initial impression that we are getting stronger and will be able to maintain the federal government," he said.
Sinar had previously reported that PN aims to win 33 out of 56 Selangor state assembly seats in the upcoming state elections which is expected to be held by this year.
Pas Selangor secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir said, if the target is achieved, the Pas and Bersatu coalition will be able to form a new government in the state.
