BUKIT MERTAJAM - The public who wish to attend the Malaysia Madani Aidilffitri Open House with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Penang, tomorrow, can also park their vehicles at the Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP) compound.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district police chief ACP Tan Cheng San said the organisers of the event will provide five Rapid Penang shuttle buses to ferry visitors using the parking facilities at the PSP to the nearby UiTM Penang.
He said there are a total of 2,000 parking lots available at the PSP to enable the public to park their vehicles there in order to avoid any congestion or the unavailability of parking lots in UiTM.
"In addition to (parking at) the PSP, the organisers will also provide several parking areas in UiTM Penang for the convenience of visitors but visitors to the open house are advised to arrive early as only 1,800 parking spaces are available.
"In the UiTM area, the organisers have arranged for seven shuttle vans to ferry members of the public from the parking area to the venue of the open house," he said at a press conference here today.
Tan said police expect between 15,000 and 18,000 visitors to attend the open house from 11am to 2pm, however, the event will continue until all the food provided is finished.
He said police are seeking the public's cooperation to plan their journey to avoid congestion as well as to obey the instructions of the police in charge of traffic in the area.
"A total of 23 police officers and 149 police personnel will be on duty to monitor traffic flow and safety. They will be assisted by 29 auxiliary police from UiTM Penang, 22 Rela (People's Volunteer Corps) members and 22 Student Police Volunteer Corps.
"We will place officers at all areas and the public is urged to adhere to their instructions. Visitors are advised not to park their vehicles along the road shoulder or unauthorised places in order to ensure smooth traffic flow," he added. - BERNAMA
