MUAR - The remains of XPDC vocalist Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, or better known as Mael, were laid to rest at Batu 6 Muslim Cemetery, Bakri, near here, at 11am today.
About 200 family members, artiste friends and fans were present during the burial to pay their last respects to Mael who died at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) near here, yesterday at 9.30pm. He was 55.
Meanwhile, XPDC band member Zuar, or his real name Azuar Md Tasi, 57, said the last time he met Mael was in the middle of Ramadan after they were together in a programme.
"His passing will certainly be felt by the local entertainment industry as he had been an amiable person, kind and generous," he told reporters after the singer’s funeral here, today.
Meanwhile, the deceased's younger brother, Syed Ali Syed Ibrahim, 50, said he was always awed by his brother who was always willing to sacrifice for his fans, even though he had been unwell recently.
He said, to show his appreciation to his fans, he was was willing to travel anywhere and get other artiste friends to meet fans of XPDC although the location can be quite a distance from his residence in Muar.
"He (the deceased) kept his illness to himself and I was surprised to learn of his death last night," he said.
Meanwhile, his niece Norashikin Abdullah, 44, said her uncle would be dearly missed by his family members and friends as he had always been a kind and mild-mannered person.
"He was a remarkable man who had always emphasised on religious education in raising his children and for that I believe Allah took him away in this blessed month and on a Thursday night.
"This Raya he had earnestly offered his forgiveness to his family members as if he knew he was going to leave us forever," said Norashikin. - BERNAMA
