MELAKA - The hosting of the Malaysia Madani Open House in six states is considered a waste and a huge mistake by the federal government.
Bemban assemblyman Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub said the decision clearly shows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was desperate to restore his previously damaged image as the state election is around the corner.
He said the government is estimated to spend about RM2 million or more for each open house event.
"It is best that the money is used to help people in need and directly channelled to them.
"Anwar is already famous, he doesn't need many big events to be popular. This wasteful action will negatively impact his good name," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Ayer Limau assemblyman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer rejected the allegation that hosting the open house would be a waste but rather serve as a medium for leaders to meet the people at the grassroots level.
He said the organisation does indeed require a huge cost, but the value it will bring, especially in strengthening the relationship with the people, can't be put a price tag on.
