SEREMBAN - The Negeri Sembilan government welcomes mosque and surau congregants to use face masks and bring their own mats when performing Aidilfitri prayers, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
He said the use of face masks is an effort by congregants to maintain their health and that of others especially since the country is still in the Transition to Endemic Phase.
"We have not made it mandatory, but anyone who wants to (use masks and own prayer mats) is welcome to do so. This morning, when performing the qiam and subuh prayers at Masjid Taman Tunku Ja’afar, I saw many senior citizens using face masks and bringing their own prayer mats.
"So, I think there is good concern among them (congregants) to take care of their health. The use of these (face masks) should be encouraged but we have not made them mandatory in Negeri Sembilan," he told reporters after launching 'Program Mantai Aidilfitri 2023' in Sikamat here today.
Yesterday, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff was reported to have said that the wearing of face masks during Aidilfitri prayers is encouraged.
She said the country is still in the Transition to Endemic Phase, hence standard operating procedures (SOP) currently in force strongly encourage the use of face masks if in public or crowded places. - BERNAMA
