Over 81,000 vehicles set to hit Melaka roads on first two days of Raya

13 hotspots have been identified as accident-prone areas in the state, with five of them located in the Melaka Tengah district and four each in Alor Gajah and Jasin.
MELAKA - An estimated 81,550 vehicles are set to hit the roads in Melaka during the first two days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said state police chief Datuk Zainol Samah.

In addition, a total of 48,930 vehicles are set to enter the state two days before Syawal and, as such, Melaka police will implement the enforcement and diversion of vehicles through Ops Selamat 20 for eight days from April 20 to avoid traffic congestion.

"A total of 22 officers and 137 personnel will be on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow in Melaka and police will also increase patrols, monitoring and inspections at accident hotspots,” he told reporters during a media conference after breaking fast with department heads, district police chiefs and media personnel.

Zainol also said that 13 hotspots have been identified as accident-prone areas in the state, with five of them located in the Melaka Tengah district and four each in Alor Gajah and Jasin.

The areas in Melaka Tengah are Lebuh AMJ (Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin), Jalan Umbai-Sungai Udang, Jalan Mufti Haji Khalil, Jalan Sungai Udang-Selandar and Batang Tiga/Bukit Rambai/Tanjung Minyak.

"In Alor Gajah, the locations are Jalan Rembia-Kendong, Jalan Alor Gajah-Tampin, Masjid Tanah-Bukit Sedanan, Lubok China-Hutan Percha while the areas in Jasin are Tehel-Bemban-Chabau, Jalan Merlimau-Jasin, Jalan Serkam-Kesang Tua and Jalan Gapam-Bemban,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said seven men, aged between 27 and 43, were arrested for selling fireworks without a licence and a total of 1,703 boxes of ‘Happy Boom’ firecrackers and 76 pouches of fireworks worth RM45,000 were seized at residential premises and Ramadan bazaars statewide. -Bernama
