KUALA PILAH - A retired military personnel did not expect the strange sounds he heard in the shed next to his house in Kampung Gachong near Inas, here, was coming from a panther.
Hamdan Alias, 60, said the incident happened at 6.20pm on last Tuesday when he was about to get to the motorcycle he parked in the shed.
He said he wanted to feed the animals before he went back home in addition to cleaning himself up before returning to the grocery shop managed by his wife
"While I was on my way to get to the motorcycle, I heard a strange sound and thought it was coming from my pet cat but I had guessed wrong as I saw a black panther when I looked back.
"The sight made my hair stand on end. I was so surprised and it was difficult for me to escape as my legs are not strong. However, I am grateful that the animal did not attack but instead decided to flee towards the forest," he said when met by reporters at his residence on Thursday.
Hamdan said this is the first incident that had happened ever since he lived there after he retired from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) 16 years ago.
He said he had reported it to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action on Wednesday.
The animal entering Hamdan's residence was also caught on a closed circuit camera (CCTV) installed in his house.
In the 51 seconds video, the panther had come down from the hill and took cover behind the shed.
However, it escaped by climbing back up the hill which was more than three meters high after it saw the Hamdan
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Perhilitan director Nurul Ermi Ramli confirmed to have received the report when contacted and that they would monitor the location.
