GEORGETOWN - Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan refuses to comment further on police probe against him on an alleged racial post.
Fawwaz said he was present at the Timur Laut district police headquarters (IPD) to give a statement.
He did not state the date he provided the statement on.
"The issue is under police investigations. I have given a statement on the issue to the Timur Laut IPD. I don’t want to comment further as it is under investigations,” he said when contacted.
Fawwaz through his Facebook post said: ‘In Sirah, there has never been a history of infidels trying dignify your religion O Muslims but they instead want bring down your religion as reminded in the Quran’.
However, not long after he had apologised and stated the statement was written and uploaded by his Facebook admin and hoped the issue would not be blown out of proportions as it was deleted.
Fawwaz added the issue had been used by those who are unhappy with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
"Insya-Allah nothing will happen.
"I don’t remember when that post was uploaded and when it was deleted by my Facebook admin. There were no issues, it is purposely brought up again. It is not a new issue,” he said.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had confirmed that the cops and the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had opened an investigation paper over a racist statement made by two PN representatives.
Investigation papers were opened on the Pas president Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Penang Pas youth chief Fawwaz.
Saifuddin said investigations on Hadi and Fawwaz were made under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code where Fawwaz was accused of defaming non-Muslims.
