KOTA KINABALU - A woman was stabbed to death by her husband believed to be a result of jealousy in an incident at a vegetable stall in Jalan Pahlawan, Kepayan here on Saturday.
The incident which happened at 1.30 in the afternoon, the 38-year-old victim who worked as a food shop assistant was seriously injured and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I) before being pronounced dead.
Kota Kinabalu District Acting Chief of Police, Superintendent Kalsom Idris said, preliminary investigations found that when the incident occurred the victim was said to be helping her sister at the vegetable stall in the area before the suspect approached.
He said, the suspect then stabbed the victim several times in the back before running away.
"The seriously injured victim was then taken to the hospital by ambulance for further action, but was confirmed dead at 2.21pm," he said when contacted on Sunday.
He said, based on information, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) managed to arrest the suspect at Jalan Kepayan at 8.30pm on the same day.
"The police managed to solve this case in less than 24 hours and the motive behind the incident is believed to be jealousy.
"The police also confiscated a knife at the scene of the incident which is believed to have been used by the suspect ," he said.
Kalsom added that the suspect, who is also a foreigner, was remanded for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated according to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
