PASIR PUTEH - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says Umno's move to seek royal pardon may be part of political pressure to free former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

However, he said the matter is up to the Pardon Board whether to consider the application.

"As far as I know anyone can apply, but he (Umno) is using political pressure," he said. He said this after a special meeting with the Kelantan PN leadership.

Muhyiddin, however, refused to comment further on the confirmation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is part of the Pardon Board to consider Najib's application.

"I cannot comment because the matter is based on the constitution," he said.

He said the Umno Supreme Council has decided last Friday to seek royal pardon from the King.

Its Secretary General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the unanimous decision was made at the Umno Supreme Council monthly meeting on Friday.
