SHAH ALAM - To free or not to free Datuk Seri Najib Razak?

Most Malaysians are hoping the former premier would remain in prison as seen in a petition carried out in change.org, an online social campaign and mobile support website.

Two petitions were held with the first launched by election watchdog Bersih for Najib not to be given royal pardon, garnering 140,000 signatures while the second petition by an individual named Ariff Lias received almost 13,000 signatures as of 9am today.

Those opposing agree that he should remain in prison after been proving guilty of corruption while those who want him free say there were flaws in the judicial system as seen in the SRC International case.

Meanwhile, Umno Supreme Working Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan hopes for good news after the Royal Pardon Board meets on April 28. Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence.

He said the Umno Supreme Council has decided last friday to seek Royal Pardon from the King.

"It was supported by every Umno members including Wanita, Puteri and Youth wing.

"Supreme Council members will send a letter requesting permission to go before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, led by Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi," he said after attending a community programme at Rukun Tetangga Ayer Baloi, Pontian, Johor.
