SHAH ALAM - Vehicle rentals for Eid have been fully booked since the first day of Ramadhan.
Qaiser Auto Mall chief executive officer (CEO) Mohd Fauzi Che Roas said multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) are in high demand as customers with large families prioritising comfort for driving long distances.
"The first day of Ramadhan (March 23) customers were making reservations (rental car) to return back to their hometown. The most 'popular' vehicles were the Perodua Alza and Proton Ezora.
"Compact vehicles (such as) Perodua Myvi have their demands, mostly students will rent it .They will 'car pool' with friends from the same hometown to save costs," he said when contacted on Saturday.
Fauzi said some customers were willing to spend almost RM1,300 a day to rent luxury vehicles such as the Toyota Alphard, Vellfire and Hyundai Starex for a stylish trip back home.
Even though the rental of luxury cars can reach thousands of ringgit during the festive seasons, Fauzi said there were many who would rent it for five days.
"If it was not during the festive seasons, the price (of renting) a car would be RM850 to RM950 a day, but it can reach up to RM1,000 to RM1,300 a day during festive seasons
"Sometimes the number of family members are not large but they simply wanted to 'show off' to others in their hometown that they were willing to spend," he said.
Fauzi admitted most rental car organisers will increase the rates during festive seasons at a reasonable amount.
This is because of several factors such as insurance financing and vehicle maintenance expenses.
"To show our appreciation towards customers we will fill up the fuel of the vehicle before it is given to them two days before Eid along with raya money donations," he said.
