SHAH ALAM - Suggestions for Pejuang to be disbanded and its members to join Malay political parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN) are baseless.
Its information chief Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said even though the claims of vote splits are considered to have little influence, the party has played a major role in uniting other conservative movements since before the 15th general election (GE15).
He explained that the efforts have received a cold shoulder from fellow politicians.
"Are you worried about joining because of your seat position? If that’s the case, don’t you dare state that you want to protect the rights of the Malays, other races, and other religions. The nation is only secured by a large, strong, and stable coalition.
"When there is an element of political games for positions, seats, and personal interests, it will become like Pakatan Harapan (PH) 1.0, PN under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and PH 2.0 led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It is not stable at all," he said in a Facebook Post on Friday.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man previously said Pejuang should be disbanded and its members were advised to join the party under the PN coalition.
He said the measure was seen as better than letting more smaller parties establish themselves and cause more problems in the future.
Rafique stated that even though Pejuang has yet to gain wide public support, that did not mean their journey would end.
"Was it not clear that until now and with the permission of Allah, Pejuang could still be clean and its flag could be flown throughout the country? "The people will judge and we will let them judge us," he said.
