MELAKA - In an emotional moment, outgoing state chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali shed tears while he was giving his last speech to staff at the chief minister's office in Ayer Keroh, here, yesterday.
A video of Sulaiman dressed in a kurta and 'kopiah' as he wipes away his tears for several times after he entered the office at 9.30am, had went viral on social media.
Sulaiman in the meeting said he is not sad about leaving his position but he is sad about leaving his staff who always provided the best service while carrying out their duties.
He expressed his hope that all staff would continue providing their best service to the new chief minister.
"For sure, I will remember all your kindness as long as I am alive," he said in the brief meeting at the fourth floor of the Seri Negeri Complex.
Sinar previously broadcasted a car carrying Sulaiman entering the complex at 8.59am.
He was said to have come to the office to meet the staff there for the last time as Melaka chief minister.
Sulaiman, who is Lendu State Assemblyman, became Melaka chief minister for the first time to replace Adly Zahari, who was appointed as the 11th Melaka chief minister on May 11, 2018, after Adly was lost the trust of a majority of Melaka assemblymen.
Melaka then had to hold a state election after four assemblymen withdrew their support for Sulaiman where Barisan Nasional (BN) easily won 21 of the 28 State Legislative Assembly seats.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi informed that only one name, namely Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, was sent to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam to be appointed as the new chief minister.
