MELAKA - Melaka Perikatan Nasional (PN) will not interfere in the state's political turmoil following speculations over a change of leadership within Barisan Nasional at state level.

Melaka PN chief Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub said he respects Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali's decision to resign as Melaka chief minister.

He said his party expressed their utmost gratitude to Sulaiman throughout his tenure as Melaka chief minister.

Yadzil, the Bemban assemblyman said it was up to Melaka BN leadership to name the new chief minister.

"Hopefully the new chief minister will continue to carry the people's agenda who are facing rising cost of living and solve local issues in the state," he added.

Sulaiman was reported to be at his office at the Melaka Chief Minister's Office, Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, here, as usual, today.

This is despite the announcement of his resignation as Melaka Chief Minister by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.

However, it cannot be ascertained whether Sulaiman went to the office to continue his duties as Chief Minister or just to meet with the staff.

Among the names mentioned to replace Sulaiman as the new Melaka Chief Minister is the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is also the Melaka Umno Liaison chairman
