GEORGETOWN - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Penang believes that the time has come for changes in the administration of the state government, especially for the position of Chief Minister.

Its Chief Information Officer, Rasman Farish Shamsuddin, said a Malay leader must be appointed to the post of chief minister if Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins the state government in the upcoming state polls.

He said the future chief minister should be able to look after the interests of the people of various races in this state without any discrimination, without extremism, and without racism.

"In order to achieve this, Bersatu and Pas candidates will be contesting in areas where there is a Malay majority.

"At the moment, our machinery is focusing and working only to ensure that PN wins in the upcoming state polls," he told Sinar Harian today.

However, he said, Bersatu Penang fully supports the chief minister candidate's desire to be a Malay leader who has the criteria and is accepted by the society in Penang.

"We will change the negative perception of Malay leaders.

"I'm confident that a good decision will be made by PN top leadership in deciding who is suitable to hold the position," he said.

In the meantime, he hopes that Penang voters will be able to evaluate and support the PN candidates.

He emphasised that Bersatu also contributed to the PN coalition to safeguard the interests and harmony of the races, especially fighting for the Malays.

He said that only PN can be the roof to maintain the harmony of plural society in this state.
