MCMC takes action on spread of 1,282 pornographic contents

KUALA LUMPUR - The Communications and Digital Ministry has received a total of 1,282 complaints related to pornographic contents on Twitter.

Its Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have taken action on the contents.

"This included referring to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action to be taken over the matter," she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

She said this during the debate session and winding-up of the Supply Bill 2023 at the committee level.

The Kulai MP said MCMC had also reported a total of 222 "dark side" accounts which had been uploading obscene contents on Twitter.

"All the accounts have been taken down," she said.

She added that from 2021 to January, this year, there were a total of 458 fake news and information contents taken down by social media platforms.

"This is in line with the community guidelines set by the social media platforms that are based abroad," she said.

She said the ministry will also collaborate with other social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Google and others.

She said the collaboration can strengthen and empower their effort, especially in reducing and deleting existing contents that were against the law.
