"As explained by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry would like to confirm that Albukhary Foundation has been approved under subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act as an institution established not for the purpose of seeking profit but for charity.

"The Finance Ministry whether through Lim Guan Eng or officers did not make any cancellation towards the approval of the tax exemption that was given to the foundation," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The Albukhary Foundation tax exemption issue arose after former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claimed Lim had cancelled the exemption approved after the PH government was established in the 14th general election (GE14).

Muhyiddin who was the PN chairman said so when met by reporters after he was called to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to record his statement regarding the claims of misuse of power by restoring the tax exemption granted to the foundation by the BN government.

However, on March 10, Lim who was the Bagan MP denied such claims before lodging a police report on Thursday.
