Kotex Malaysia and Lotus Malaysia successfully enlighten Malaysian youths about menstrual equality and feminine hygiene

KUALA LUMPUR – In honour of International Women's Day, Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus's Malaysia) launches the "Sis Boleh Sis" campaign. on Feb 26 and it will run until March 8, 2023, honouring all women for their contributions and accomplishments under the theme #EmbraceEquity.

During the ceremony, Kotex spoke to students about menstrual hygiene and provided them with information on physiological changes, the menstrual cycle, the proper methods to manage periods hygienically, period myths, and body positivity.

Lotus’s Malaysia executive director, of corporate services Azliza Azmel said at the ceremony that many of Lotus’s Malaysia-adopted schools are located in rural areas, and most of the time the students have limited resources and knowledge of personal hygiene products or even the know-how on managing the changes they're facing physically and emotionally as they grow.

"Thanks to the support from customers and Kotex, we are able to do more for young girls in our adopted schools, giving them confidence and preparing them for their transition into womanhood," she added.

The industry's top brand for feminine hygiene, Kotex Malaysia, is constantly creating new items and approaches to better service its customers. By giving women equitable opportunities, the Kotex ‘#PeriodOrNotSheCan’ initiative seeks to eliminate period stigma and advance educational opportunities in communities and schools.

Kotex Malaysia marketing manager Ngui Siew Ching applauded Lotus’s Malaysia team on the Sis Boleh Sis campaign's successful launch, which aligns with Kotex's goal of making sure that a woman's development is never hampered by her period.

"Being a part of this campaign has allowed us to scale our in-school menstrual hygiene education programme, which we have been running for over two decades.

She further explained that according to the Kotex Period Poverty and Stigma Study, 1 in 2 girls feel like missing school when they are menstruating, and more than 68% of girls feel uncomfortable talking about their periods in public.

"This is crucial because our Kotex Period Poverty and Stigma Study revealed that 1 in 2 girls feel like skipping school when she’s menstruating, and over 68% of girls don't feel comfortable discussing their period openly.

"As period stigma and taboo are still prevalent in our community, we welcome more intervention from partners like Lotus’s to overcome this challenge together. We pledge to continue our fight against period stigma and poverty both through education and by supporting underserved communities," she explained.

On the other hand, Lotus's Malaysia held a two-week Sis Boleh Sis personal care product collection campaign in nine of its stores, including Lotus's Kepong, Cheras, Pulai Hartamas, Alor Setar, Kota Bharu, Seremban Jaya, Melaka Sentral, Desa Tebrau, and Tanjung Pinang. The collection is intended to provide sanitary napkins, deodorant, pantyliners, feminine wash, and other personal care items to over 3,000 schoolgirls from Lotus Malaysia's Adopted Schools.
