KUALA NERUS - A total of 100,000 beneficiaries have benefited from the PruBSN Mikrotakaful Jariyah plan in six years, said PruBSN Takaful Bhd chief marketing officer Datin Seri Azlin Arshad.
Azlin said the microtakaful products were created to meet the financial needs of the needy to obtain basic protection at affordable rates.
She said it was then used as one of PruBSN’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to provide free takaful protection for a year for the bottom tier of the B40 group. "Under Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd (PruBSN) we have PruBSN Prihatin whose role is to carry out the company's CSR work.
"PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah is the company's main CSR programme which has been carried out continuously since 2018. Through this programme we have successfully issued more than 100,000 certificates to cover disadvantaged groups," she said when met at the Jelajah Skim Insuran Kesejahteraan Rakyat (SIKR) in Bandar Baharu Kuala Nerus, here today. Commenting further, Azlin said the positive impact and effectiveness of PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah plan on the community has attracted the interest of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) to establish strategic cooperation to provide protection to more people from the poor and hardcore poor through the SIKR programme.
Through the programme, approximately 300,000 heads of households were given free takaful protection with a protection value up to RM25,000.
"The SIKR programme will provide a safety net to the beneficiary in the event of unforeseen circumstances such as disability and death. Terengganu has the second highest number of SIKR recipients in Peninsular Malaysia with about 20,000 people. Under this protection, recipients can get financial support when facing a very difficult situation to improve their overall quality of life," she said.
Following the success, Azlin said PruBSN plans to maintain the PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah plan for the long term through the collaboration of ICU JPM in the future.
Besides, the company will also study collaborations with other stakeholders that share the same aspirations in order to expand access to the groups in need. "Many recipients of PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah protection expressed their appreciation for the financial support provided and taught them the importance of takaful protection.
"The feedback has been taken into account to create continuous initiatives through educational programmes to increase awareness and promote the benefits of takaful protection as well as financial literacy programmes," she said.
In the meantime, Azlin said PruBSN in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) also offers BSN Takaful Sakinah, which is an affordable and easily accessible takaful protection plan.
She said through the plan, people can get basic protection for as low as RM55 a year for protection.
The plan, she added can be purchased at all BSN branches nationwide while members of Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), can use EPF i-Account funds to obtain protection from PruBSN.
"We want to ensure that no one is left behind in getting protection. With payment as low as RM55 a year, the public can get protection of up to RM20,000 in case of death or accident," she said.
She also said that until now two million customers nationwide have obtained protection by PruBSN through solutions catered to different needs. - BERNAMA
