HULU SELANGOR - The Kuala Kubu Baru magistrate's court, here, has ordered actor Hafidz Roshdi to be sent for a psychiatric evaluation.
Sessions judge Siti Fatimah Talib who sat as the magistrate made the order after allowing deputy public prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar's application in accordance with Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Earlier, Hafidz, 29, pleaded not guilty to injuring his wife.
He was charged with intentionally causing hurt by punching Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, three times, causing the victim to suffer bruises.
The offence was allegedly committed near the exit of the Sungai Buaya toll plaza at about 3.32am on March 2.
The charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read with Section 326 of the same act carries a jail term of up to a year or a RM2,000 fine or both, if convicted.
Nurul Qistini led the prosecution team, assisted by deputy public prosecutor Elyza Amira Habeeb Rahman while Hafidz was represented by lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader.
Nurul Qistini asked for the accused to be allowed bail after being referred to Hospital Bahagia and undergo treatment, there, as the accused has a record of receiving psychiatric treatment.
Meanwhile, Akberdin pleaded for his client to be released on bail without being referred to a psychiatric hospital as the accused was suffering from depression and bipolar syndrome which he said were not major mental health issues.
