SONGKHLA - Thai authorities arrested a local woman believed to be the mastermind of a human trafficking syndicate involved in the smuggling of Myanmar nationals to Malaysia.
The 53-year-old woman was detained in Nonthaburi on Tuesday.
Chief investigator of the Bureau's Immigration Division 6, Pol. Col. Denchai Charoenyut said preliminary investigations found that the woman received 17,000 baht from each Myanmar citizen to help smuggle them into Malaysia.
"The investigation also found that there was 21 million baht in the woman's account within a period of six months," he said.
Denchai said that apart from arresting the mastermind of the syndicate, the authorities also detained two other members of the syndicate, aged 28 and 43, to assist in the investigation - BERNAMA
