KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chided the attitude of some husbands who were reluctant to allow Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions to their wives through the i-Sayang initiative.

He said i-Sayang represented the government's initiative to express gratitude towards the wives contributions, where the husbands voluntarily transfer two per cent of their EPF contribution to the wives' account.

"I hope all the husbands, especially those in the civil service, would do so. We will list out those who are reluctant.

"I think we must ask the department heads and GLCs to ensure employees contribute," he said in his speech at the launching of the 2023 International Women's Day Celebration at Dewan Perdana Felda, here, on Wednesday.

Also present were the prime minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The i-Sayang facility introduced by EPF in November 2021 enabled the voluntary transfer of the husband’s contribution to the wife’s account.

Anwar commented further stating the voluntary transfer was only a small amount.
