SHAH ALAM - The Home Ministry's statement on the approval of the additional motion in the 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) to not contest the Umno president and deputy president's posts was sufficient explaination that there was no violation of the Umno constitution, secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.
Ahmad said he had previously explained the matter, but thanked the Home Ministry for clarifying the matter.
"I thank the Home Ministry for making the statement. It is not the first time that the top two posts are not contested.
"Now we can move forward and focus on helping the people," he said on his Facebook page today.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in a statement this morning stated that Ministry had examined the ruling made by PAU 2022 from Umno secretary-general Ahmad on March 3, which was in response to questions raised over the controversial last-minute motion for the top two posts not to be contested.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had stated on Sunday that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had approved the motion and exempted the party from compliance to the Societies Act, which raised questions from among his detractors, who called for the Deputy Prime Minister to publish the letter.
Saifuddin this morning confirmed that Umno has been granted an exemption from compliance to the Societies Act 1966, thus validating the motion passed by its last general assembly to not open its top two positions for contest in the upcoming party elections, adding that the exemption was granted under Section 70 of the Societies Act of 1966.
