SHAH ALAM - The establishment of political parties branches on university campuses can be a platform for youth, especially students, to shape the future of politics in Malaysia.
Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UniPSAS) Student Representative Council (MPP) president Muhammad Ridhwan Zakarta said it is the best platform for young people who are inclined to jump into politics.
He added that youths are the main pilllar for a country's stability.
"I welcome the proposal to bring in an independent political elements in campus as it is important to give students the exposure.
"Not only will it open opportunites for the youth to be wiser and more mature in making decisions, but it can also help shape the future of politics.
"In addition, it also encourages students to involve themselves in the administration field in an effort to realise the slogan 'Youth is the pillar of the country's future'," he said when contacted by Sinar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, National Student Consultative Council (MPKK) secretary-general Rasydan Mohd Hassan said there is no denying that the proposal will have a positive effect on students to participate in politics.
However, he said the implementation must be done with certain rules in place as a guide for all parties.
"I welcome this effort but I would like to stress that the government needs to look at some important details before implementing it because it is feared that a negative effect such as divisions among students might happen.
"University is a place to gain knowledge. It is not wrong to open a branch of a political party, it is even beneficial to the students, but it depends on the justification. I believe that the ministry has to conduct more in depth studies before implementing it," he said
