KUALA LUMPUR - Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has described his time working as a minister holding the Finance Ministry portfolio, as the hardest times he has had to face.

Tengku Zafrul who is currently the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) minister said this is because the country was in the midst of financial, health, and political crises simultaneously.

"I must admit it was the hardest time to be a Finance Minister at the time when our country was going through multiple crises,” he said at the launch of the Malay version of his book ‘Mengharungi Badai Ekonomi: Mengemudi Bahtera Menelusuri Gelombang Covid-19’ today.

"It was stressful for me, and I had the toughest time in the office at that point of time,” he said when he was asked to compare working in two different portfolios during the Q&A session of the launch.

He also added that working in MITI has different challenges and he found it a bit less stressful and fun.

"It’s very hard to compare two very different ministries but I find it less stressful (in MITI).

"For instance, during Parliamentary sessions there’s less attention directed to me,” he explained.

Tengku Zafrul launched the Malay version of his book at the Bazar Sibeturahim Fashion Fest by CIMB Preferred at the International Gallery Kuala Lumpur Golf Country Club Resort today.

He previously held the Finance Ministry post for the first time from March 2020 to August 2021 during the administration of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. He then served as Finance Minister for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to November 2022.
