Enhance enforcement against illegal tour guides, association tells govt

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Women Tourist Guide Association says it has yet seen a reform of policies by the government in favour of tour guides.

Its secretary Yeap Li Boon said the new government should enhance enforcement against illegal tour guides and upgrade the quality of tour guides.

This, she this was to rectify the negative perception that tourists have towards the tour guides in the country.

"We have yet to see policies in favour of tour guides.

"We hope that the new government would enhance enforcement against illegal tour guides and upgrade the quality of tour guides,” she said in an interview with Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily.

She however noted that the series of measures to carry out reform and wiping out corruption as proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim saw a more efficient government as well as better attitude by civil servants.

She also shared that there were prompt replies of the complaints lodged by the association to the Tourism Ministry.

"The ministry is more flexible in handling matters now. There is still room to improve the online system," she added.

Yeap's comment was in relation with Anwar's 100th day in office since the latter sworn in on Nov 24, last year, following Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in the 15th General Election (GE15).
