SHAH ALAM - The "Kuliah Maghrib" (Maghrib lecture) by popular preacher Ustaz Azhar Idrus or better known as UAI, which was slated to take place at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah, Bukit Jelutong on Sunday (Feb 26) is cancelled.
"We are sorry to inform that Azhar Idrus's 'kuliah' has been cancelled as it did not receive approval from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
"It is with great regret, we wouldn't be able to deliver the kuliah as scheduled to the people of Selangor," said the statement posted on Azhar Idrus's Facebook.
The kuliah will now be conducted at Masjid Ar-Rahimah Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday instead.
The statement earned unhappy reactions from the preacher's followers, including one teacher, Mohd Fadli Salleh who expressed sadness over the cancellation of the kuliah.
"It's sad to see that some people are allowed to conduct activities that are considered immoral, but for some people who want to do good and remember the afterlife, no permission will be given," the teacher wrote on his Facebook page, followed by some 694,000 people.
Another Facebook user named Eyza Ali also expressed displeasure with the JAIS's move to cancel Azhar Idrus's kuliah.
"Allahuakbar, we are going to a religious talk, not a concert," he simply wrote.
JAIS could not be reached for comment at press time.
