SHAH ALAM - Following the success of the "Rahmah" initiative, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will be introduing a second strategy which is called "Mendaya Upaya" (to empower).
This strategy, its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said aimed at improving the people's standard of living.
He said the ministry has formulated three specific programmes to empower housewives (Daya Suri), creativity (Daya Kreatif) and businesses (Daya Niaga) for households' economic well-being and reducing the burden of cost of living.
He said Daya Suri will focus on housewives in the consumerism and business aspects.
"Daya Kreatif will focus on creative industry players and practitioners including influencers while Daya Niaga is an initiative made to empower entrepreneurs by boosting their business activities and facilitate their business processes.
"Agencies under the ministry such as the Malaysia Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO), Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) and others are currently organising and developing various programmes to mobilise the Mendaya Upaya initiative especially for Daya Niaga," he said.
Salahuddin said this at the Bisness Sinar Harian Awards (BISA) which was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, i-City, here, last night.
Also present at the BISA Awards were Karangkraf Group co-advisor Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah, Karangkraf Group chairman Firdaus Husammuddin and Sinar Karangkraf chief executive officer Farah Husammuddin.
Commenting further, Salahuddin said in dealing with the rising cost of living faced by the people, the ministry has implemented two strategies which were to help and to empower.
"The ministry implemented the Rahmah initiative through the strategy to help and it received extraordinary support from traders and the people.
"The ministry remains committed to ensure that the people's lives are taken care of in this challenging economic situation, while also ensuring traders and entrepreneurs can run their businesses with the government's help and support," he said.
Meanwhile, BISA, which was held for the first time, has become the starting point for Sinar Harian to play its role in empowering local entrepreneurs.
The award aims to recognise small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
