KUCHING- Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has confirmed that the state has been selected to host the 2024 Malaysian Games (Sukma 2024).
Abang Johari, when announcing the matter at the closing ceremony of the 14th Sukan Antara Yayasan Negeri Se-Malaysia (Pesaya) 2023 sports meet here last night, said that it was decided by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh in a meeting regarding the organisation of Sukma 2024 recently.
""The federal government has asked Sarawak to host Sukma 024... Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister) represented Sarawak (in the meeting). It seems that no other state wants to be the host," he said.
Abang Johari said that Sarawak was indeed ready to host the Games at any time.
On Feb 9, he had said that Sarawak was ready to shoulder the responsibility of hosting the biennial Games and asked that the Federal Government notify the state early so that it could upgrade the existing sports facilities and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Yayasan Sarawak were crowned overall champions of the 14th Pesaya after winning 12 gold, nine silver and three bronze medals, thus amassing a total of 95 points - BERNAMA
