KUALA LUMPUR - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has expressed his regret over the discovery of copies of the Quran found discarded in the drain yesterday.
He said his office was working with the police to investigate the incident, and stressed that action could be taken against any party who deliberately committed the act based on existing laws.
"The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) appreciates and praises the high level of concern of the authorities as well as the members of the local mosque management committee and the public who have cooperated in dealing with this issue," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im advised the public to always respect and preserve the sanctity of the Quran at all times.
He said there were certain guidelines and methods for disposing of copies of the Quran, for which the public could refer to their respective state Islamic religious authorities.
Yesterday, 13 copies of the Quran were discovered in a drain at Tasik Sri Murni, Jinjang, here, believed to have been deliberately thrown by irresponsible individuals, and the matter went viral on TikTok.
