SHAH ALAM - The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) is in the dark over the alleged assigning of a social media influencer as the voice for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) English listening test.
Its President Aminuddin Awang said they have yet to receive any information regarding the issue.
"Nobody is able to verify whether this allegation is true,” he told Sinar Daily.
There was a complaint floating on Facebook where an influencer was allegedly hired to conduct the voice over for the SPM listening test for English subjects.
According to the Jarod Yong, last year’s audio recording was better than the current one as the voice actors had a clear pronunciation.
"This time around, the actors spoke too fast that they slurred/mispronounced words.
"Many of my students gave up not even halfway through the paper,” he said.
He further expressed of the dissatisfaction over the hiring of a TikTok influencer for the job and questioned why highly profiecient speakers available were not assigned for the recordings.
"They would at least be aware of Common European Framework (CEFR) and the standard of English expected of our SPM students. Plus, they would be cheaper too,” he said.
