SHAH ALAM - Veteran politician and former Umno Wanita chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has confirmed to contest for the Wanita Umno chief post once again.
As reported by The Star, the former Women, Family and Community minister's nomination form was submitted by her representative at the World Trade Centre (WTC) today.
"Alhamdulillah, the nomination form for Umno Wanita chief was submitted by my representative and received by the election secretariat this morning at 11.30am," said the 69-year-old.
The submission of the nomination form ended speculation about her return to the political arena after she stepped down in 2018.
For the record, Shahrizat once held the position since 2008 but decided to not defend her post in the 2019 Umno election because she wanted to make way for new faces.
In the 2008 general election, Shahrizat, who had held the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat since 1995, lost to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar with a majority of 2,895 votes.
