KOTA BHARU - Pas may consider giving a State Legislative Assembly seat to former Rembau Parliament member Khairy Jamaluddin to contest in the upcoming state election.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party, however, did not receive any applications from Khairy to join the party.
He said Pas will maintain its stand and open its doors to accept Khairy, popularly known as KJ, into the party.
"Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) also welcome figures or members from other parties who disagree with their party's direction," he said.
He said this after the Tahfiz Al Ikhwan Building and Groundbreaking Ceremony for Phase II on Friday.
Khairy, who was Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate for Sungai Buloh Parliament in the 15th General Election (GE15), lost in a six-cornered fight in which the seat was won by Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Datuk R Ramanan.
When asked about the seat distribution in PRN, Tuan Ibrahim said Pas has yet to discuss the matter and had left it to the supreme council and the party's consultative committee.
However, he said Pas had reviewed the general simulation to focus on states where they could win the PRN.
"There are about 40 per cent of new candidates, and we also asked Muslimah and Pemuda to list out suitable names to be screened as potential candidates," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim also said Pas welcomes an average of 5,000 new members every month, most of whom are young people.
