SHAH ALAM - Former Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) vice-president Dr Thanussha Francis Xavier in a sarcastic post on Twitter says people in Malaysia should go to bed "wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirt".
She made the remark criticising the rules of a hospital which denied entry to a woman who was seeking treatment due to the patient's attire.
In her post, she attached a news report from an online news portal about the incident which allegedly happened at the Kampar Hospital in Perak.
"Please go to bed wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirt in Malaysia. Just in case you get a heart attack in the middle of the night, you better be appropriately dressed to get treatment," she tweeted along with the hashtags #FashionMatters and #SoStupid.
It was reported that a woman in her 20s was scolded and denied treatment by a medical assistant for being "dressed indecently" while seeking treatment at the hospital.
In the 11pm incident which occurred on Sunday (Feb 12), the woman was wearing shorts to the emergency room.
She was finally treated for menstrual cramps and high blood pressure after she changed into long trousers.
Her friends then questioned the medical worker about the rules of the hospital to which the latter allegedly lost her patience before calling them "uneducated".
Meanwhile, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a tweet said the incident will be investigated.
He said necessary action will be taken if the incident was found to be true.
He thanked those who had highlighted the issue saying that this should not happen in health facilities.
