SHAH ALAM - PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah's decision to co-head a secretariat that supports the operations of the Advisory Committee to the Finance Minister is deemed wise.

PKR vice president Awang Husaini Sahari said Nurul Izzah's action to no longer serve as senior economics and finance adviser to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was a reasonable decision.

"I think it was a wise step when she resigned as the prime minister's senior economic adviser and switched to a secretariat position, which is more inclusive.

"She will no longer work solo as an advisor but will belong to a team now.

"A position in the secretariat includes a bigger scope to help the prime minister.

"Hence, the decision to announce her resignation as prime minister's advisor is a well-done decision," he told Sinar Premium.

Awang Husaini, who is also a Putatan member of parliament (MP), said Nurul Izzah's position in the secretariat is better than being the Prime Minister's economic advisor because it is more comprehensive and broad.

"For me, both positions are great, and Nurul Izzah deserves both. However, this new position would be better because she is part of a more comprehensive team.

"The merits of this appointment to PKR depend on the role given to Nurul Izzah. Is it to refine government positions or improve it to be more transparent?

"I believe that transferring the role of advisor to the prime minister to a new position will be beneficial not only to PKR but also to the country," he explained.

Meanwhile, PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung said that the decision made by Nurul Izzah is a positive development for the party and government.

"The action shows Nurul Izzah has her own principles after taking into account views from various parties. I believe it is a positive development.

"This new position will keep her away from nepotism allegations and can make an important contribution in terms of coordinating the views of appointed economic advisers on top of playing a vital role in the government," he said.
