KOTA KINABALU - Datuk Masiung Banah has denied that he refused to accept the post of Vice President for the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah ( Gagasan Rakyat) party, which was given to him.
Masuing who is also the Kuamut state assemblyman said he is no longer an independent member of the state legislative assembly but is now a member of Gagasan Rakyat which is now led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
"I will not look left and right anymore, it is enough to be hunted down by political parties for three years.
"This time I am no longer an independent. I have legally accepted the position of Vice President for Gagasan Rakyat," he said when met upon arrival at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here, on Friday night.
Masiung, who just arrived from Manila, Philippines, said this after rumors arose that he refused to accept the party's highest post even though his name was listed with two other Vice Presidents for Gagasan Rakyat.
He said he did not know what sort of rumours were going around about him, but asked all parties and supporters not to be influenced by whatever rumours were being spread.
"Don't listen to rumours, I appreciate the Chief Minister's trust in me. I will do my best in this post," he said
Masiung said he is determined to play an active role in helping the leadership of the party at the local and federal levels.
"I express my appreciation to the Chief Minister who is also the President of Gagasan Rakyat for bringing me into the fold.
"As soon as we get the instructions, we will expand the wings of Gagasan Rakyat at all levels based on the party's constitution," he said.
It was reported a while back that Hajiji who is also the Chief Minister of Sabah had announced that he will be taking reign of Gagasan Rakyat.
The current leadership lineup of Gagasan Rakyat is Datuk Seri Masidi Manjung as Deputy President, Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif (Vice President I), Datuk Rubin Balang (Vice President II) and Masiung (Vice President III).
